Its been some time since Ive done a movie marathon and so today I thought Id break down and do one. This marathon involves movies about beings from another planet abducting human beings for some secret reason. I'm limiting it to films specifically about abduction, I simply have to many movies about aliens to do a general marathon.
An alienated List:
1. Invasion of the Body Snatchers
2. The Forgotten
3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
4. Dark City
5. The Fourth Kind
6. Fire in the Sky
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
One of the greatest science fiction films ever made, I can remember watching it on TV many many times when I was young, it was usually on a Saturday afternoon.
Strange alien seeds floating through space get pulled into earths atmosphere, these seeds when break open releasing spores which fall to earth and wind up in a farmers field in the small town of Santa Mira California.
It is suggested that the owner of the farm investigates and is taking over by the odd seed pods that were now growing in his field. Eventually the pods are shipped to all neighboring towns around Santa Mira and slowly the pods take over.
Growing within the pods are exact replicas of those in their vicinity, having been planted there by those who have already been taken over. After the owners of said house fall asleep the pods absorbed the minds of the inhabitants and the process is complete. These beings are not exact replica's for they have no emotions, only the pretense of emotion. The agenda of the aliens is to take over all life forms that they encounter in order to create a "perfect world" one without war, hate, or death. The price for this perfect society is the elimination of love, hope or any other emotion.
Through the years there have been many interpretations of what the movie was trying to say, the most frequently mentioned is that its a parable about the dangers of Communism.
